Your link in bio is a list. You're more than that.

A row of buttons can't show everything you make, love and are building. So you explain yourself one link at a time, to every new person.

Nobody should have to shrink to fit a list.

So I built my own street first: a shop with 99 things on its shelves, a sticker machine on the curb and a jazz bar you have to knock twice to get into. Now we’re opening streets for everyone else.

Why I built it, if you want the long version.

Why I built it

Hi, I'm Kara.

Main Street's First Resident

Whether they were good or bad, I've never been short on ideas. My struggle has always been getting them out of my head in a shape other people can follow. So I did what every zillennial does: blamed our parents' generation and went to therapy.

My mental health coach told me to write it down. Writing gives the circling thoughts an ending, and it finally lets the stuck ones out.

Read the rest of my story

For years, as a woman early in my corporate career, I translated myself for every room, reshaping each idea until the person across the table could understand it.

AI changed that. It's how I get an idea onto the page whole, in a form other people get. It doesn't replace me. It's my Iron Man suit. (Credit to Google's Rethink ROI webinar for that one. I'm keeping it.)

Donald Miller's Building a StoryBrand showed me why it works. Every story people love hits the same few notes, and when people can follow a story, they trust it. Main Street runs on that idea. We all use the same few notes, so there's room for every bit of your creativity and less need for heavy AI to make sense of it. Here's how I keep the AI small.

And remember, AI was made by humans, so failure is a shared trait. Like Gusteau says in Ratatouille, “You must try things that may not work.” When something fails, we take the lesson and loop it back in. That's how ideas grow: we build on our own, and on each other's.

That's why Main Street is a portfolio you walk through, not a list of links. You can walk into my world, and I can walk into yours if invited. The guides on every street handle the chores, so your energy goes into the thing only you can make.

So my advice to anyone reading: pull out a pen and paper. Or build your own Main Street.

Beta requests are open. We’ll review each request and email you about next steps. Your street opens when you receive an invitation.

The other option is explaining yourself one link at a time. (Zero stars. Would not recommend.)

Got an invite link already? Open it and you'll go straight to your street.

Main Street · looking ahead

AI responsibility

AI is here to stay, and keeping up with it has started to feel like a second job. Main Street is a place, not a page of links: what you make out front, one workspace out back with the models already picked for you. Our goal is for it to use AI like the good scissors: out of the drawer only when the job needs it.

How that works

Think of a recipe box. One card per recipe, every cook reads that same card, and a typo gets fixed once. Main Street keeps your shop that way: each product lives on one card and every storefront you're building reads from it. (Database people call it third normal form.) When you publish, shoppers see a dated copy of what you approved until you publish again.

So finding a product or adding up a total is plain filing, with no AI involved. AI comes in when you want a draft or an explanation.

The AI we do use, we plan to pay back. Every answer runs on a computer somewhere that burns electricity and drinks water to stay cool. When paid workspaces open, part of every subscription goes to an environmental giveback fee, built into the price you already pay and never added on top. We’ll post here every month how much came in and where it went.
